John Lennon once said “when I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
An apt statement for me and my life. Ok, I get it, this quote applies to your life too. But the question is happy with what and how?
Something that energizes you and propels you to do more, if you feel you have done less when you have done more, it means you are passionate about that thing, person or activity. This is your happiness that is what energizes you and that is what makes you happy. But behold, the same thing that gives you happiness today may not give you the same happiness tomorrow, you grow, you change, you evolve – just like the snake shed its skin and becomes new we also keep shedding our skin of growth.
The Grand Purpose of Life ????
You know since my childhood I was plagued by this question – what is the purpose of my life? It was such a big riddle that when I grew up I had this quote in signatures of my email – “Purpose of my life is to live a life of purpose”. And the funny part is what is that purpose I do not know till now. Hey, you don’t have to laugh at this. Well, it was a genuine concern back then but now I feel it is perfectly fine if you do not know the purpose or maybe it is not that important to even have a purpose of life. Why? Of late, I have started trusting the universe for giving me some answers rather than becoming impatient. I am not getting any younger by each day, but today I am the youngest I can be in this life and the oldest I have lived till now – what happens the next moment I do not know. It is perfectly fine not to know all the answers to your existence. We were born without our permission and if we do not know for what we are born it will not be the biggest sin committed by us. We should focus on the things that give us happiness and not worry about the grand purpose of life. While chasing this happiness we will get the direction where we need to go. It is just like walking through the dense fog and get clarity by walking through it.
“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” — Jimmy Dean.
This happens all the time, we plan something but something else happens on the way and we have to change the direction of what we are doing. But the lesson is we should keep moving, even if it is with the baby steps and one day we will reach where we intended to reach. Hence we should do more than just give up. I have a friend – a real fighter, I have known her for long. A married girl who was doing her CA course and for some reason or the other she was not able to make it to her qualification – but she must inspire the people who are too ready to give up on their dreams – I am so proud of her when I got to know she qualified as a Professional Accountant. Now that was her goal but not anymore as she has achieved it – she must be having a newer goal to achieve and I wish her all the best in that.
“Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.” — Napoleon Hill.
Start with whatever you have and keep going with little or fewer tools you have and during this journey you will find the answers you are seeking. Just live each day and do the best you can with the best you have and you will keep unravelling the mysteries of life. Our life is a game of Snakes and Ladders – snakes hit us when we make bad choices and we are back to square one and have to start again and sometimes we hit the ladders and it takes us to newer goals with a snap of fingers.
Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. – T. S. Eliot
To know your limits you will have to start and reach the end and you will realise it is not the end but the beginning of the end you thought was the end whereas it is just the limit you placed on yourself to reach where you have reached and when you reach that point it becomes the beginning of another goal.
“Begin at the beginning,” the King said, very gravely, “and go on till you come to the end: then stop.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
So I stop now because with what I began has given me a new direction, to stop for a while, ponder what I need to do next and gather my tools and set for a new journey and meet new people on the way. Stop worrying about the Grand Purpose of Life or searching for Grand Passion in your life, follow the daily goals that make you happy.
Life’s about being happy, being with people you love being with and doing things that excite and stimulate you. Just be the best you can be and this action will lead you to a place where you need to be.

Its true. I think the small goals are the most important to be happy and spread happiness than chasing the so called Grand Purspose which we do not know what it is.
